Wonderful Day
I had a great day yesterday.
I was bored as hell and didn't want to spend the whole day in the house by myself. I hadn't ever rode the DART Rail before so I decided to make a day of it. I bought the all day pass with a $20 bill and didn't know that they didn't give bills as change. So I got to carry around 17 gold $1 coins in my pockets along with my iPod and my cell phone. I'm just glad they didn't give me my change in all quarters.
The rail was actually fun. It was great not having to worry about driving and parking. It made the day even less stressful for me. So I met
veetor and one of his co-workers for lunch.
After lunch I walked up to the Dallas Museum of Art and looked at the art work for a couple of hours. There was one piece in particular that I couldn't stop looking at. In a dark room, there was a 20 by 20 grid of red LED counters (about a foot apart). Each counter started at 1 and counted up to 9, then went blank and started over again. But each one did so at a different speed - some really slow, some extremely fast. It mesmerized me. Here's a link to some of the artist's other works: www.tatsuomiyajima.com
I left the DMA and went to the Nasser Sculpture Museum. I didn't feel like pay another admission fee. So I decided to take the rail down to the West End area. The West End Marketplace building had really changed since I'd last been there. There were only two floors that you could go on and the Tilt Arcade in the basement wasn't there anymore. Very sad.
I decided that I wanted to continue my "artsy" trip with an independent film. So I rode back up to Mockingbird Station to see what was playing at the Angelika. While walking through Urban Outfitters, I ran into one of my Suma friends who works there. He recommended a film called Me and You and Everyone We Know. It was really deep and had some really funny moments in it. I was sad to find out later that it hasn't gotten very many good reviews from critics or from viewers. I did like it but it was one of those films where I could easily see people thinking that it was a bunch of crap.
I walked around Mockingbird Station for a while, then ate at Cafe Express and finally headed back home. It was a wonderful and stress-free day. I'll definitely have to do more of these in the future.
