Gay Marriage

Since Proposition 8 in California passed, I've been in one of my "angry at the world" phases.  It's not like I have anyone to get married to but I would at least like the option.

I can understand how someone might not 'agree' with gays, lesbians, trans, bi's and tri's.  But I have a hard time understanding why someone would be so much against it that they would want to deny someone else the happiness of marriage.  I just don't get it.  If you're against same sex marriages, then don't get one.  It's as easy as that.  You can hate me all you want; just allow me to get married if I choose.

I feel like the majority of people disagree with the gay 'lifestyle' because they say that gays are too promiscuous and can't have healthy relationships. Then why not give us the chance to prove you wrong.  Some of us actually do want healthy relationships and marriage despite whatever stereotypes are out there.

Or maybe it's 'against the Bible.'  Last time I checked, people were able to get married at the Justice of the Peace without a Bible being present.  Also how can you hold that against those people that aren't of a religious nature?  People that worship a different supreme being can't enforce their religious laws against an entire group of people and then use that as the excuse.  Don't we have freedom of religion?  A person that voted for Prop 8 was quoted saying, "I believe a Christian is held accountable."  What kind of a defense is that?  Discriminating against people is not very Christ-like.

I personally feel that people are against it so much just because they think it's gross.  They just use other excuses to justify their hatred and homophobia.  Get over it. It's not like we force you to watch or anything.  I think straight sex is pretty disgusting myself but it still happens everyday.

Why do the majority of the people get to decide the basic rights of a minority anyway?  If I don't have the same basic rights that the rest of the US has, then I don't feel like I should be forced to do everything that the rest of the US does (like paying taxes).  Or maybe at least pay fewer taxes than everyone else.  Tax breaks for homos!

To quote Margaret Cho... "If you're against same sex marriage but you laugh your ass off to Will & Grace, fuck you!. You are a hypocrite, and you're not allowed to pick and choose what you like from our culture, and leave behind the burden of inequality."  I also agree with her when she says that all the wedding planners should go on strike until gay marriage is legal.  "If we can't get married, ain't nobody getting married!"

I think the GLBT community should just go ahead with our Plan B: Start turning everyone gay.  This way we will be the majority and can vote for gay marriage to be legalized.  We even discussed it at our last secret meeting.  We've got plenty of magical fairy dust.

But seriiously... take a look at this video... if not, at least go to this guy's website and read a few of his ideas.

What the Hell?

I'll be stepping up onto my soap box now...What the fuck is wrong with Wyoming?

Wyoming GOP Seeks To Make Out-of-State Gay Marriage Illegal

I can respect someone's right to disagree with same sex marriages.  I disagree with them but everyone is entitled to their own opinions (no matter how wrong they are).  Honestly, how can you deny a gay man's chance at bridal registry?  That's just cruel!

It wasn't enough to pass an pass a Defense of Marriage law to defend the 'sanctity' of marriage but to try and dissuade gay couples from living in Wyoming is just a bit much.  Goodness.  You've already won.  Stop while you're ahead.    What new ridiculous anti-gay law will be passed after this one goes through?

But honestly, what gay or lesbian couple says, "Hey let's go get married in Amsterdam and go raise a family in Wyoming!"  Well I'm sure someone has.  But anyway... I'm talking like I've even been to Wyoming (now I really want to go for a visit).  But I HAVE seen pictures... so I know what I'm saying.  I just think that they should be welcoming gays so that someone can start redecorating.  That state looks like it's still in the Dust Bowl.  Who's their art director?  Ma Joad?

It just pisses me off even more that almost 9 years ago Matthew Sheperd was killed in Laramie, Wyoming and they have yet to pass hate crime legislation that includes sexual orientation.  Now they want to make things worse.

And what's with that state senator Gies saying "They didn't want people from other states that say (homosexual couples) can be married to come in and say they get the same status in Wyoming. ... I'm just representing my district."  That's bullshit!  Grow a spine and just say that you hate gays you old fart.

Okay I'm done now.  I'm gonna go and get the sand out of my vagina.  But I'm not leaving without quoting the fabulous Margaret Cho.  This is from her Assassin tour:

"If you're against same sex marriage but you laugh your ass off to Will & Grace, FUCK YOU [holds up middle finger]! You are a hypocrite, and you're not allowed to pick and choose what you like from our culture, and leave behind the burden of inequality."

Wikiquote

I've been having fun using Wikiquote.org.

I was looking up the category of 'sexuality' and this was one of the quotes from that page.

"The division into heterosexuality and homosexuality, into heterosexuals and homosexuals, is also an artifact that rests on a grave error, namely, on the assumption that a fundamentally different model is necessary to explain heteorsexual and homosexual behavior."  by Roth Gindolf

Discuss.

Gay Pride

Gay Pride in Amsterdam was this past weekend.  If there was any city in the world to be during gay pride, this was the one.  There were SO many parties.  It was insane.  Due to budget reasons (and in some cases, clothing restrictions), I just went around to all the free parties and to the parade.

The parade was huge!  This was the first parade that I've every been to where the floats actually floated.  I hate post about this without being able to show my pictures (I took at least 200 of the parade) because it won't really do it much justice.  But anyway... I was standing about 2 meters (trying to be metric) from this older man in a diaper and a candy rope going around his waist and between his legs (unfortunately, I did take pics of him).  Every time a float would pass by he'd yell "Hello!" in the gayest way possible and start dancing around.    He ended up causing a traffic jam in the parade because everyone in the boat would point and stare at him - even the driver of the boat.  In my pics, you can see people laughing and point just to the right of me.  After all the main floats went by, it seemed like anyone in Amsterdam that owned a boat decided to travel down the canels.  It lasted about 4 hours.

Oh yeah and this was the first gay parade that I've been to where there weren't protesters waiting at the end yelling things at us.  That was kind of refreshing.

12 reasons why gay marriage should be illegal

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.
